Akhmatova - 2003

I returned again and again to the great Russian poet Anna Akhmatova. Eventually I began to put her words on canvas. My paintings use deeply graphic black marks on tones of copper, green, pink and silver: letter, words and lines map out a personal vocabulary inspired by and close to the poems themselves filled with sadness, love and hope.

Accompanying the paintings is a brand new floor piece that evokes both a serene tea ceremony and a modernist tea party, the simple vocabulary of form and color takes on a third dimension of a piece with my other sculptural work which includes paintings on suitcases and drawings on table linens.
